Teaching the GED Extended Response

The GED extended response, commonly called the "GED Essay", is quite different from previous years.  Students are asked to read and evaluate two passages that take different stances on the same topic. Essays should determine which passage presents a stronger argument and back up that claim with analysis of evidence from the passages.

This workshop will focus on the specific criteria for the GED Extended Response. We will look at how the response is scored and practice scoring samples using GED guidelines.  We will also explore how to best prepare students for this daunting task. Numerous resources and graphic organizers to aid lower-level students and reluctant writers will be included.

Please be aware that priority is given to NYSED funded registrants.
